On Saturday 5th May the sun shone and Bedale was packed with people basking in the sunshine and enjoying all the town had to offer. The Car Boot Sale in Bedale Park was bursting at the seams and the town waited with excited anticipation for the Tour de Yorkshire cyclists to race through the town.
The noise of motorbike sirens, car horns, bells, whistles, the helicopter overhead and the cheers of the crowd welcomed the racers and spurred them on their way towards Sutton Bank and the coast beyond.
Once the race had passed, Bedale Park thronged with people enjoying the wide selection of food and drink on offer, listening to the live entertainment on the stage or just relaxing on the grass watching the rest of the race on the big screen in front of Bedale Hall.
Bedale looked fantastic, all the hard work of the Bedale Tour Fest group and of residents of the town really paid off. The town was strewn with bunting, painted cycles and knitted decorations. Even the newly painted railings alongside Bedale Park looked smart.
The schools put in a great show with their land art, though it was sad that the helicopter missed these as it zoomed past the town.
