Bedale has been voted Best Dressed Host Town in the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire. Congratulations to everyone in the town for welcoming the Tour so wholeheartedly and with such colour. To win this award when we are by far the smallest host town is amazing! Special thanks to Brand Bedale for the lovely lamppost sails, and all three schools for their fantastic land art.

Friday 3rd May was a memorable day in Bedale's history, as the women's and men's Tour de Yorkshire races sprinted into town for dramatic stages finishes. The whole town was dressed up in blue-and-yellow finery, and thousands of people watched the race along the route and in the fanzone at Bedale Park. Since the granting of a Market Charter by King Henry III in 1251, there has been a market in Bedale’s cobbled market place every Tuesday. On the 17th of April 2018, a delegation of 6 from Bedale Twinning Association went to Azay-sur-Cher, in the Loire region of France near to Tours. They were met with the utmost hospitality and friendship whilst being hosted by members of Azay-sur Cher Twinning Association.
